DCMS Proposes Key Changes to Casino Regulations
In a recent interview with gaming news outlet NEXT.io, Thomas discussed the planned overhaul of the UK’s land-based casino sector. The proposed changes align with the Gambling Act white paper and have been submitted to parliament by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
The DCMS’s Casinos (Gaming Machines and Mandatory Conditions) Regulations proposal includes various changes that aim to enhance the competitiveness of Britain’s casino sector in the growing iGaming space. One significant change is the increase in the cap on Category B machines to 80 per venue. Additionally, the minimum gaming-table area for “small” 2005-Act casinos will be reduced, and a 5:1 machine-to-table ratio will be implemented for both 1968 and 2005-Act properties. Furthermore, sports betting will be permitted across all land-based casinos, offering properties access to a valuable revenue stream.
