iGaming Industry Continues to Thrive in the US with Record Revenue
Despite the hesitancy of many US states to embrace online gambling, those that have taken the plunge continue to see impressive growth in the iGaming sector. According to the latest report, the seven states where online gambling is legal generated a total revenue of $868.6 million in April, marking a significant 32.5% increase compared to the previous year.
Record Growth in April
The latest data from Casino Reports reveals that each state that offers online gaming experienced a growth of at least 25% year-on-year. While April saw a slight dip from the record-breaking $900 million revenue generated in March, the industry remains optimistic about its future prospects.
The total gaming handle for the iGaming states, excluding Michigan and New Jersey, reached approximately $10.2 billion. Pennsylvania emerged as a frontrunner in the industry, contributing around $7.5 billion to the total handle, while Connecticut surpassed $1.6 billion once again.
Revenue Breakdown
In April, taxable operator revenue hit $787.9 million, resulting in $169.3 million in taxes, a significant increase from April 2024. It’s worth noting that this figure does not include local taxes and tribal disbursements.
Pennsylvania and Connecticut stood out as top performers in terms of revenue growth. Pennsylvania led the pack with $282.8 million in iGaming revenue, solidifying its position as the leading online casino state. Meanwhile, Connecticut saw a healthy competition between FanDuel and DraftKings, resulting in a 38.3% year-on-year increase in gross revenue, totaling $31.6 million.
Michigan and New Jersey also reported impressive revenue figures, with $248.1 million and $235.2 million, respectively.
Explosive Growth in Delaware and Rhode Island
Delaware and Rhode Island also experienced significant growth in revenue from online gambling. BetRivers, the operator in Delaware, saw a substantial increase in gross revenue, reaching $9.9 million in April 2024. Meanwhile, Bally’s, the sole iGaming provider in Rhode Island, nearly tripled its revenue to $9.9 million, showcasing the industry’s potential for growth.
